Dr. Thomas M. Irwin (Dr. Tom)
Veterinarian/Medical Director
Dr. Tom's Bio
Dr. Tom is one of the most relaxed, down-to-earth vets you will ever meet. With over thirty years of small-animal practice experience, you will be in great hands here at Newport Mesa Animal Hospital. Haven’t met Dr. Tom yet? He will be the one running around in shorts and sandals, practicing medicine between sets at his favorite surf breaks.
Dr. Tom attended undergraduate school at University of Hawaii, where he fell in love with surfing. He then continued his education at the University of California at Davis and received his BS in Biology and Animal Science in 1978. He then continued his education at the University of California at Davis, where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1983. A very “low key and down to earth” person – his practice philosophy is to provide progressive quality medicine in a relaxed, common sense, honest practice with the pets well being of primary importance.
His other passions include his family and recently welcomed new granddaughter Olive! Surfing, hockey and live music are also other passions of his.
He enjoys spending 1 week per month in San Jose del Cabo surfing, relaxing, helping Dr. Ruben Pawling (local Veterinarian) and two local animal rescues in Los Cabos.
His pets include Miller (Orange tabby – who lives at NMAH).
